Upon arrival to Fort Knox, the Cadets depart the buses and group up around Col. Jason Halloren, Task Force Warrior Commander for CST Basic Camp. Nearby, other Cadets unload packs and bags. After a short motivational speech by Halloren, the cadets line back up and go through the rest of the check-in process.

The purpose of Basic Camp is to build basic skills, confidence, and for Cadets to learn the basics of the Army. If a Cadet decides to stay with the ROTC program, Basic Camp will become the foundation for tactical and leadership skills as they move on to Advance Camp.

“At Basic Camp, we don’t really expect you to know anything. Some Cadets are just a few weeks out of high school,” said Halloren.

Cadet Sierra Cook of the University of Kentucky, hometown Louisville, Ky., says that for her Basic Camp is an excellent opportunity to help her build and refine her skills and gain valuable military experience.

“I hope that Basic Camp will help me gain the confidence to take on obstacles such as the repel tower and high ropes course,” said Cook.
