FORT KNOX, Ky.—Cadets in the 3rd regiment of Basic Camp arrived to Building 5919 eager to begin their training.

“I’m really excited for doing the rappelling wall and learning more about basic solider skills.” Said Cadet Jennifer Vandenbosch, Marquette University, of Appleton, Wisconsin.

She hopes to bring home better leadership attributes for her country and leadership skills in general.

“I would define leadership as leading people in a good way so that they would want to lead others in a positive manner as well.” Said Cadet Vandenbosch.

At Basic Camp, Cadets learn their basic skills of ROTC and leadership before moving on to Advanced Camp.

When Cadets arrive, they go to their regimental office to make sure that they acquire everything that they need for a successful summer as well as undergoing a hearing test and medical screen.

Non-commissioned officers (NCO’s) work hard with the Cadets to make sure that they are properly trained and that they get the best experiences possible.

“Listen to the NCO’s, take in as much as you can, learn as much as you can. There’s three things that will make you successful in the military: be where you are supposed to be when you’re supposed to be there, do what you’re supposed to do when you’re supposed to be doing it, and wear what you’re supposed to wear when you’re supposed to be wearing it.” Said Captain Justin R. Stephens, one of the 16 brigade nurses for the CST Basic Camp this summer.

Captain Justin R. Stephens is one of the two brigade nurses for the 3rd regiment of Basic Camp. There will be 16 nurses total for the eight brigades of Basic Camp CST.

Cadet Summer Training will bring 8,200 Cadets through Basic and Advanced Camp this summer on Fort Knox. These camps are designed to help challenge, grow and improve various skills and leadership qualities within the Cadets.
