FORT KNOX, Ky.- Basic Camp 2nd Regiment Families came out to see their Cadets after the 30 day Cadet Summer Training at Fort Knox, Kentucky.
The families met at the Gaffey Hall in the Haszard Auditorium where they got a taste of what the Cadets did over the past month. At the end of the briefing parents would walk out to all of the Cadets standing at attention. The Cadets were given the go ahead, many ran straight to their families.

One particular mother Jo Rieck, the mother of Daniel Reick, was egger to see her son.
“I’m excited to see him even though he is staying for another month to do Opposing Forces (OPFOR),” said Jo Reick, Honey Creek, Iowa. “I think it’s great that he is going through Basic Camp, I’m very proud of him.”
Mrs. Reick could hear the changes in her son, both good and bad.
“I think they really stress the Cadets to the max here, because when he would call he sounded so tired,” said Reick. “He had to get use to the fact that he performance level wasn’t the same and that he didn’t do as well on the second Physical Fitness tests at night compared to the morning.”
Mrs. Reick could just tell that Daniel’s character build within himself throughout the training.

“He had to get use to the military way, the drill sergeants yelling at him and responding with yes sir or no ma’am,” chuckled Mrs. Reick. “ I think it was good for him to go through basic training, it taught him more impulse control along with understand and respecting the discipline.”
When Mrs. Reicks was asked about what leadership skills her son has learned she said, “I’m not sure what type of leader he’s going to be, but Dan is more of the born leader in the sense of people just kind of gravitate towards him.” “Dan had everything that he needed to be successful at basic camp and in the military, I already saw that in him before he left for basic training and now I believe it has intensified for the better since he has been here.”
Tomorrow is the Basic Camp 2nd Regiment graduation. The only thing between the Cadet and becoming a 2nd lieutenant is Advanced Camp.
Cadet Summer Training will bring 8,200 Cadets through Basic and Advanced Camp this summer on Fort Knox. These camps are designed to help challenge, grow and improve various skills and leadership qualities within the Cadets.
