FORT KNOX, Ky.,- Cadets of 6th Regiment, Basic Camp started the first of their out-processing events today at the Central Issue Facility (CIF) where they returned all the equipment they were issued at the beginning of camp.

The CIF sees thousands of Cadets and Cadre throughout the summer, making sure each individual has the necessary equipment they need to be successful throughout training. CIF is set up in stations of specific equipment items, where personnel check for cleanliness and imperfections.
“Today we’re turning in all of our gear we checked out; cleaning it and re-cleaning it, hoping it’s good to go,” said Cadet Kylee Hearne, Morehead State University, Ky.
These Cadets have just Family Day and Graduation left of their days at Cadet Summer Training.
Cadet Hearn said the experience of Basic Camp was different but fun.

“I liked land navigation, troop movement stuff and marksmanship,” she said. “The most rewarding part of camp would probably have to be when we would do squad lanes and you actually get it right. The most challenging part would probably be communication and working together through disagreements.”
Hearne will return to Morehead State this fall for her junior year where she will become a contracted Cadet, working to become a Second Lieutenant.
“I like Morehead because it’s a smaller program so you get a lot of one-on-one with your Cadre. I missed one semester but they went ahead and caught me up on everything I needed to know for camp to make sure I was ready,” she said. “I’m looking forward to putting the stuff I’ve learned to use and leading soldiers.”
While the intense training of camp may be over for 6th Regiment, Basic Camp, five more days in Fort Knox remain to include a Keynote speaker event, blood drive, Family Day and Graduation.
Cadet Summer Training will bring 8,200 Cadets through Basic and Advanced Camp this summer on Fort Knox. These camps are designed to help challenge, grow and improve various skills and leadership qualities within the Cadets.
