FORT KNOX, Ky. – Cadets from 4th Regiment, Basic Camp were met with hugs and kisses from friends and family at Family Day on July 20.
The Cadets marched in formation into the Waybur Theater parking lot, waiting for their parents to exit the auditorium.
As expected, tearful meetings ensued.
Cadet Kenneth Figueroa, a student at the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico, jokingly told his family that all they do at Basic Camp is sweat and march.
“Sweat, road march, sweat, ruck march, sweat – everywhere,” said Figueroa.
He was most looking forward to going to Buffalo Wild Wings with his family in Elizabethtown and excited to leave post.
Cadet Ryan Garretson, a student at the New Mexico Military Institute, stated he’s glad to be able to relax today.
“[I feel] great,” mentioned Garretson. “A little tired but I’m doing alright.” When asked how he got the scrape on his cheek he laughed and said he wasn’t sure.
Cadet Emma Altonji, a student at James Madison University, posed for pictures with her mother, father, older sister, and younger sister.
“We’re gonna go to Louisville,” said Altonji, motioning to her family. “I’m gonna go to Starbucks,” she added with grin.
Altonji stated the Cadets have until 19:30 to be back on post, expressing her joy at being able to spend the day with her family.
