FORT KNOX, Ky. – Wednesday, May 22, Cadet Summer Training Cadre refined their fundamentals at the George Blair Live Fire Range. They are sharpening their skills for when the Cadets come to CST.

The Cadre focused on the basics of marksmanship for the training. They focused on getting into position, how to be sturdy in the position and finally how to execute shots up to 300 meters away.
“It helps our self-confidence because I know what I am doing and everyone knowns what I am doing; we just need to hone in our skills,” said Spc. Zachary Hauk. “It helps to talk to the others about the training we are going through as well.”
Cadre polished their marksmanship fundamentals “to help the instructors who will be training the Cadets for CST,” said Staff Sgt. Brad Balsley, Union Town, PA. “these are going to be the instructors for the Cadets. We are teaching them how to articulate what they want from the Cadets and it’s a better way to relate the Cadet.”
It’s vital for these Cadre members to be able to rely the information to the Cadets because they are the future Officers of the Army. They will be the ones leading in future battles.
“it’s important because it shows them the fundamentals that every Soldier needs to know coming into the Army especially since they will be an officer,” said Hauk.

Cadre focused on a known distance range. Known distance is being able to verify that the Soldier knows the trajectory at each distance from 5 meters to 300 meters.
The Cadet has to qualify on their weapon for CST. They go through Preliminary Marksmanship Instruction (PMI) first, afterward they put their skills to the test at the range. A lot of these Cadet will be learning from the beginning so it’s critical for the Cadets to understand how to qualify on their weapon.
“I like relating and passing this information on to help these Cadets become Soldiers in their careers and be able to put it into their tool baskets,” said Balsley.
