1st Regiment Cadets graduated from Cadet Summer Training at Fort Knox, Ky., June 29, 2022.
The ceremony started with a formation of the troops. It also included an invocation, honors to the nation, a Cadet cannonade, the Cadet Creed and more.
Cadets who earned awards during their time at Cadet Summer Training were recognized and presented with an award during the ceremony.
Cadet Jessi Harmon from Northern Arizona University, received the Bold Leader Spirit Award. She said she felt happy to receive the award.
“I feel like it’s kind of nice to get a little validation after we all put in a lot of hard work,” Harmon said.
She said she had a good experience at CST.
“It was really great to see Cadets from all over the country,” Harmon said. “I thought it was a great kind of esprit de corps building event, to have all of us brought together and performing joint tasks and working towards a common goal, and I thought it was a really awesome event to be a part of.”
Harmon said she is hoping to branch into either explosive ordnance disposal or infantry.
Graduation is a time for celebration and many family members attend to share in the excitement with their Cadets.
Staff Sgt. Annmarie Scherigton-Wiser said she was excited to see her son graduate.
“This is a little kid that used to say that he wasn’t going to go in the military, and then the next thing you know he chooses a military college,” Scherigton-Wiser said.
Scherigton-Wiser said she was worried she would not be able to make the graduation because of a mission she was working. She said her plane was delayed, but she managed to arrive in time to see her son graduate.
“I know what it is to be on the other side of graduation and having somebody on the other side you know, and I wanted to be there for him,” Scherigton-Wiser said.
