The Occupational Physical Assessment Test, or OPAT, is a physical fitness test that has been used by the Army to determine the fitness levels of recruits for years. The ACFT will replace the current Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) starting October 1, 2020. The current APFT consists of three separate parts – push-ups, sit ups and a two-mile run. The new test has six parts. Soldiers must perform a deadlift between 140-340 pounds, throw a 10-pound medicine ball behind their back, do push-ups, execute the sprint/drag/carry, complete leg tucks and run two miles.
