• 5th Regiment Cadets had the opportunity to learn about their rifles and shooting during Preliminary Marksmanship Instruction (PMI) at Cadet Summer Training Advanced Camp in Fort Knox, Ky on June 23, 2021. At PMI, Cadets learned shooting positions, how to care for their rifles, fundamentals of shooting and even how math plays a role in their accuracy. One lesson in particular focused on the fundamentals of shooting, such as breath control and trigger squeeze.  “When you’re shooting, breathing is important because whether you either inhale or exhale, it will affect where the rifle is,” said Cadet Kalley Magel, from University of […]

  • Unlike most college students on summer break who likely sleep in, Cadet Erin Gustafson from Texas A&M University finished her Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) at 5:30 a.m on June 21. • Walking up to the confidence course on the morning of June 18, 2021, you’d likely hear Cadets of 3rd Regiment cheering each other on as they complete each mentally and physically challenging obstacle within the woods of Fort Knox, Ky during their Cadet Summer Training Advanced Camp.  The purpose behind the confidence course is in the name. Cadets have to set aside any fears or negative thoughts and build that confidence within themselves to get through the obstacles.  Probably one of the biggest fears that pop up during the confidence course is heights. However, one Cadet faced the problem by talking […]

  • By: Anna Pray 4th Regiment Cadets were taught how to disassemble and reassemble their weapons by Cadre on June 17, 2021 during their Preliminary Marksmanship Instruction at Cadet Summer Training Advanced Camp in Fort Knox, Ky. Some Cadets, whether they had previous experience with weapons or no experience at all, enjoyed the lesson on how to take apart, clean, and put back together their weapon.  “Learning the insides of it, how it functions, and why it functions that way is pretty cool,” said Cadet Cimiya Duffin, from Morgan State University in Maryland.  “It’s almost like Lego pieces,” said Cadet Tyler Rowe, […]

  • By: Anna Pray Day Land Navigation did not start off well on the morning of June 16, 2021, but that did not stop 3rd Regiment Charlie Company 4th Platoon from finding an interesting way around that during their Cadet Summer Training Advanced Camp in Fort Knox, Ky. After their safety briefing, the Cadre needed to find a tracking device that was given to one of the Cadets that no longer worked. This process ended up taking over an hour. Rather than letting the anticipation of starting Land Navigation and the frustration of waiting ruin their day, one Cadet in particular decided […]

  • As the morning light shines down on 4th Regiment at Fort Knox, Cadets pair together and kneel in front of a small pile of sandbags while preparing to be tested by Cadre on Call for Fire. • Letting fear run their lives? For some 2nd Regiment Cadets, not anymore. Those Cadets just learned how a 64-foot rappel tower test can help them overcome fears and build confidence within themselves during Cadet Summer Training Advanced Camp. The main challenge for those Cadets was facing a fear of heights.  “I’m not ashamed to say that I’m scared of heights,” said Cadet Jeanille George from University of Colorado Colorado Springs. “My fear is really falling.” While fear may have tried to control some Cadets’ thoughts, the danger was solely in their minds. The best solution? Replace that fear with confidence in […]

  • Packing their bags and moving to Fort Knox alone, Cadets almost have no choice but to become good friends with one another before Cadet Summer Training Advanced Camp ends.
